Paardeberg Environmental Awareness and Response (PEAR) investigates, raises awareness and distributes information on practices that affect the ecology of the Paardeberg region. On a consultative level, PEAR investigations have included limestone and sandstone mining activities, proposed cattle feedlots, increased air-traffic and developmental threats to Paardeberg water resources. PEAR activities have resulted in legal compliance notices being served where national environmental and land-use acts have been breached, and public participation in shaping environmental legislation. Perdeberg Winery, Woodhill Racing, Varsfontein Stud, Quantum Foods (Tydstroom), Weltevrede, and many other landusers have been active and generous contributors in this regard.
