PSI Erosion Project

soil-erosionThe R250 000 Paardeberg Erosion Project was completed in 2009 to stabilize the track through Bowwood to the cannon on the second highest peak on Paardeberg. The project provided essential training opportunities to create a skilled erosion management team.  The track ensures that fire fighters have essential access to the mountain during wildfires, and it has subsequently been incorporated into the Paardeberg firebreak map for integrated fire management plans. The project requires three to 10 days a year to complete routine maintenance of the track and firebreak. The track was incorporated into the Cape Epic during 2014, with the route continuous through the Slent/ Ayama firebreak and track, maintained as part of  the PSI NatReM Project.
